Good morning all
Digestive Health
Wow how healthy nutrition has changed over the years, one day we need to be ‘fat free’ the next ‘carbs’ are the enemy, now gluten intolerance seems to be on the increase
How confusing this can all be
Yet, even though I seems we are getting better advice these days, the increase in digestive problems is massive
And this is not surprising given all the conflicting information we are constantly given
It is important to take a step back and learn what the body really requires, have a clear picture of this and our body as individuals, not always following the crowds
Remember, we are all different and so require slight differences in our daily nutrition to support our own bodies
I think it’s sensible to look back at our ancestors, during Paleolithic times, before the agriculture market became a huge money-making machine, brainwashing us into making them more money
Back in these times, our ancestors ate a diet rich in vegetables, fibre, fruits when in season, and protein, when they made a kill
All natural foods, and in those days with no added chemicals, pesticides, preservatives, so extremely healthy
Whereas, now the food we buy in supermarkets is changed so much from it’s natural form to preserve it, make it taste better, and animals even being pumped with hormones to speed up growth, again to sell quicker and make more money
All of which are being passed through our bodies when we eat these products
Which again can have a detrimental effect on our health, fat loss, mental health and particularly digestive system
Back in these times, water was also the only form of hydration, no sodas, fizzy drinks, or alcohol
Basically their nutrition back then consisted of plants, protein and fat
Whereas, now our bodies are under the threat of carbohydrates, sugars, trans fats, preservatives, additives, dyes and lots more
Things our bodies were not designed for
And this huge difference in what we were made to eat and what we now actually eat is a massive contributor to
many present-day diseases
Unfortunately, we are not suffering the consequences of long term low fat, high carb diets, which were aimed at reducing heart disease, yet have created bigger problems, such as with diabetes and obesity
Our bodies are like finely tuned engines and function well with the right foods, but poorly without, just like trying to run a petrol car, on diesel
With one of the biggest deprivations to our bodies these days, being fibre
Which is vital for optimum health and weight control
A high fibre diet reduces the risk of gastrointestinal disease, helps clean the intestines, as well as increasing feelings of fullness and satisfaction, thus preventing over eating of other poor foods like sugar
So I will leave you thinking about how important the food you put into your body is, and hopefully you realise what’s missing in your nutrition, and start making changes accordingly
I am going to delve more into the digestive system over this week, so keep posted for the next blog and contact me if you need any specific advice
