Hi all
So exciting news, we have Zumba classes coming back to Shapes in the next few weeks
Now being an ex dancer, as you know I have a huge passion for dance, and I loved teaching Zumba, until I was advised to give up, due to my back problem, which honestly broke my heart, as I loved teaching it
So we have had a rest from zumba here at Shapes for nearly a year now, and we now have the lovely Lucy, a good friend and client of mine, who has completed her training and is bouncing onto the zumba scene
so for those of you who don’t know what Zumba is, here goes:zumba2
Zumba Fitness is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to form a fitnessparty atmosphere.
While many of the types of dance and music featured in the program are Latin American inspired, classes can also contain everything from jazz to African beats to country to hip-hop and pop.
And not just that, but it is AMAZING!
It’s, fab, fun fitness for everyone
Having been in the fitness industry for 15 years now, I can honestly say I love Zumba, and the reason is that it gets the people who absolutely hate exercise, up off the sofa, having fun, moving and burning calories, which they weren’t doing before
not everyone wants to lift weights, run for hours or even attend high impact classes with super fit people making them feel intimidated
I know I say this often but I truly believe, you have to do what suits YOU
and finding something you enjoy is essential for best results
There are so many ‘hardcore’ ‘push till you drop’ type classes and gyms now, that can really put people off, so they end up not doing anything at all
Whereas, with something like Zumba, they love it!
The atmosphere, the great music and the fun of everyone whooping and cheering, really makes it something special
Over the years, I have heard so many fitness professionals, knock things like Zumba, when I think as a professional, trying to get people fitter and healthier, surely your aim should be to just get them moving in any way you can, not only aim to kill them in a workout
this type of attitude makes people intimidated, and prevents them from trying something they would possibly stick to and get results
Surely something is better than nothing?
And realistically, if the instructor is good at what they do, the workout will be designed well and give good results
I see time and time again people who have never exercised, or not done anything for a long time, following all of their friends to the new crazy fitness class or bootcamp, absolutely killing themselves, causing injuries, and then being put off exercise all together
I feel this is very bad practice, as with many of these places, people are all put into the same group, lifting the same weights, with no instruction, just ‘push till you drop’ or ‘push till your sick’ type commands, which is not suitable for everyone
no wonder these people then give up feeling deflated, feeling like a failure and feeling even more down on themselves than they were to start with
I totally understand that it can all be confusing, you don’t know what to do for the best, and as some of my client have said in the past, they need to throw themselves in the deep end, as there is so much work to do they need to start hard
I totally disagree with this!
Especially, if you haven’t done anything for a long time, you’re older, overweight, very unfit, and even have some injuries to work around
Then jumping it at the deep end, is only going to cause more problems, and probably put you off, which means you are more likely to give up easily too
I would highly recommend starting with baby steps, making small changes and building it up from there
Find something you enjoy, in a place you feel comfortable, happy and supported, and then you will excel
and if this just so happens to be zumba, then amazing! you will have so much fun, whiklst getting fit, changing shape and meeting lots of cool new people too
Shapes Zumba classes start back Wednesday 12th July at 6.30pm with the lovely Lucy,
We are so pleased to welcome Lucy to our team, and look forward to livening the place back up with the spice of Latin inspired music, and fun ladies wanting to dance, sweat and be sexy
