Hi guys, hope you all had an amazing Christmas and New Year. Well that time of year has come again, the time when everyone wants to get fit, lose weight and be super healthy. Again as you all know by now I am actually a firm believer in a healthy lifestyle and not quick fixes, so for best, maintainable results really we should have good nutrition, at least 80% of the time and be exercising regularly. This should be all year through, and not just for special events or because you totally overindulged at Christmas or on a holiday. imagesQ552Q0M7 (2)

However, most people do not follow this kind of healthy, disciplined lifestyle, so January is a depressing realisation of where they are at and how bad they have been for a long time. Everyone expects miracles and wants amazing results in a few weeks…………this is NOT realistic or maintainable. There are millions of faddy diets and crazy exercise programs out there, but again these are not realistic and will only give you short term results, usually resulting in weight gain again very quickly once you get back to normal.

Baby steps……..make small changes in your daily routine, that are manageable for you. You should not feel like you are on a diet and depriving yourself. In fact you should be eating plenty of the right foods, frequently throughout the day to support your body. Snacking on fibre and protein will keep your energy levels up and prevent hunger and cravings, whereas, sugary snacks will only leave you craving more sugar, which is stored as fat if not used as energy.

Get moving!!!…..ensure you are as active as possible. Make time to exercise every day, even if this is lunchtime walks or make time for a quick high intensity interval session before or after work, if you haven’t managed to get to the gym or a class. (please check out my youtube channel for hiit sessions to follow)

Stop making excuses!!!……It is soooooooo easy to make excuses for poor choices. Only YOU can make changes within your life. Yes it is cold, yes it is late when you finish work, yes your tired, yes the kids need you. However, there is always some spare time within a day for everyone. 12 minutes to do a workout, 5 minutes to prepare healthy snacks for work the following day. YOU must make time and prioritise your health into your daily routine, no one can do it for you. Planning and preparation is the key here. If you don’t plan, then you will not succeed in your health and fitness goals.

Mind Set!!!…..having the right mind set again is essential for best results. Being positive and having the support of positive, helpful people around you, is very important. You must believe in yourself. You can do anything you set your mind to.
